Uploading, setting up and maintaining a website requires a basic understanding
of several key elements, including domain registrars, domain name servers (DNS),
programming languages, databases, optimization and file transfer protocol (FTP).
Do not be intimidated; it is easier than learning a foreign language. Learn the
basics of website design, its vocabulary and how to write and modify basic HTML
(Hypertext Markup Language) coding. This knowledge will help you understand the
world of the Web, and once you learn the basics, the setup process is easier
1. Purchase a domain name from an online registrar, such as
Network Solutions or GoDaddy.
2. Find a hosting provider by searching the Internet for the term "hosting".
3. Input the DNS (domain name servers) for your
domain in your domain registrar.
4. Optimize your Web pages for the search engines.
5. Make a backup or rename the active (live)
files you want to change, prior to uploading.
6. Examine your error logs located in your cpanel (control panel) to find
problems areas that need fixing.
7. Submit your site to the search engines.
8. Modify and add fresh content to your site
often-- even if the change is minor.
